Chicagoland Toy Drive distributes over 5,000 Christmas gifts to families in need

CHICAGO (WGN) — A lesson in generosity took place at Leo High School on the city’s South Side Sunday.

More than 5,000 Christmas gifts were given out as a part of the ChiGivesBack Chicagoland Toy Drive that takes place every year right before Christmas.

“It was a great opportunity for our students to give back and be hands on in helping another family during the holiday season,” volunteer Pernicia Smith said. “It absolutely keeps the magic alive and we hope that it sparks a flame that we hope will carry on.”

Now in its eighth year, ChiGivesBack also partnered with other non-profits to help 55 families in need during the holidays.
