In honor of Black History Month, the Hooters Restaurants of the Chicagoland area presented a $1,000 scholarship for college to Joshua Smith. Smith is currently a junior at Leo Catholic High School in the Auburn-Gresham neighborhood of Chicago….Hooters partnered with ChiGivesBack for the scholarship selection process. ChiGivesBack Co-Founder John Boddie nominated Smith. The Hooters of the Chicagoland area has volunteered with ChiGiveBack on several local initiatives so far this year including MLK Jr. Day and the Black History Month Scholarship selection.

The organization is set to surpass the 20,000+ mark in toys distributed since the start of the toy drive – this equates to over $500,000 in toys provided to Chicagoland children. This season is one of the most important times in a young person’s life and we want to do our part to ensure that we bring goodwill and cheer to local families in our community. Financial burdens caused by economic hardships can make celebrating difficult for many people. According to the Chicago Coalition for the Homeless, there are over 82,212 homeless individuals in the city of Chicago. Of this number, over 18,117 of them are students.

Friendsgiving has provided meals holiday meals to families living in Englewood and on the Westside of Chicago. Over twenty barbers gathered on Sunday, August 21, 2022 to provide 300+ free haircuts, book bags and school supplies to returning Chicago Public School students. Labor of Love arrives on the heels of the Illinois legislator passing the CROWN Act which provides protections for Illinoisans discriminated against due to hairstyles.

ChiGiveBack was joined by 150+ volunteers for a MLK Day of Service at Tanner Elementary School. Each active volunteer took a COVID-19 rapid test that yielded a negative result before staring their shift. Together, we painted seven murals at Tanner, organized storage closets, remodeled the teachers lounge, donated 2,000 books and delivered the city’s love to Tanner.
